The Detroit Pistons enter the NBA offseason coming off a historic season that saw them completely turn their franchise around.

Of course, the Pistons finished with the worst record in the NBA the prior two seasons before they were able to finish sixth in the Eastern Conference and make the playoffs this season.

Unfortunately for Detroit, they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the New York Knicks but it is clear that they are set to be a contender in the Eastern Conference for years to come thanks to their young core led by Cade Cunningham.

While the Pistons are coming off an impressive season, they have some key decisions to make this summer regarding their roster as they try to upgrade around Cunningham.

Detroit has to decide whether to bring back both Tim Hardaway Jr. and Malik Beasley, both of whom are unrestricted free agents but they also have enough cap space to make a larger move either in free agency or through the trade market.

One player who has recently been linked to Detroit is Milwaukee Bucks champion Bobby Portis and ESPN’s Bobby Marks recently named the Pistons as one of the best fits this offseason for Portis.

Portis would be a great addition to Detroit as he could either start next to Jalen Duren inside or come off the bench as a sixth man.

Either way, the 30-year-old big man would give the Pistons another reliable scorer and rebounder and he would also help them space the floor due to three-point shooting, which could work well in the starting lineup with Duren being more of a paint scorer.

By adding Portis, the Pistons would upgrade their lineup around their core of Cunningham, Ausar Thompson and Duren and with how open the East is entering next season, they could be a dangerous team that still has enough assets to make a larger move in the future.
