Dirk Nowitzki Gets Emotional Reflecting on Stephen Curry–Steve Kerr Moment

A moment explained more than a thousand plays. And a legend watching from afar felt it all. This was the reality of the Stephen Curry-Steve Kerr moment.

On April 18, 2026. During the NBA on Prime broadcast, Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki reacted live to the Golden State Warriors’ season-ending loss. The team fell 111-96 to the Phoenix Suns in the Play-In Tournament the night before.

Watching the footage, Nowitzki could not hide his emotions. “This makes me choke up a little bit, but it was a cool moment,” Dirk said.

He then added, “They had a heck of a run and like you and Blake said… the bond you form over all these years, and you know you’re like a family… It was a cool moment.”

During the final minute of the game, Steve Kerr pulled Curry and Green aside on the sideline during a stoppage.

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen next, but I love you guys to d****. Thank you. Appreciate you,” Kerr told them.

Green hugged him tightly and replied, “I appreciate you.” It was a private family goodbye broadcast to the entire world. It happened just moments before Green was ejected after a tangle with Devin Booker and officials.

Nowitzki won a title in 2011 with the Dallas Mavericks and watched his own core group slowly dissolve.

The uncertainty around the Warriors hit hard because Kerr’s contract was expiring this summer. Plus, Curry is now 38, and Green is 36.

Dirk was reacting to the possible end of a historic era in basketball. This Stephen Curry-Steve Kerr moment marked the close of a 12-year run that started in 2014.

How Curry, Kerr, and Green Made the Warriors Champions Four Times

This trio brought 4 NBA Championships to the Bay Area in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022. They reached the NBA Finals 6 times and pulled off a record-breaking 73-9 regular season.

They always protected each other in public press conferences. Kerr consistently called Curry the team’s leader. He also defended Green’s passion, stating that Draymond is who he is, and that is why they win.

Green made his absolute loyalty clear to the media. “That’s my brother… I’ll ride with him through anything,” he said about Curry.

Curry returned the respect by calling Green a Hall of Famer and praising Kerr as the perfect coach who changed his career.

Dirk wasn’t just watching a team lose a play-in game in Phoenix. He was watching a legacy remembered not for love and trust.

What exactly comes next for this group? Do you think this is the final time we will see Curry, Green, and Kerr together on the court?
