Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki had a light-hearted moment with his former teammate, Luka Doncic.
The Los Angeles Lakers continued their excellent form during the 2025 NBA Cup and the regular season following their 129-119 win over the Dallas Mavericks.
During the win, Luka Doncic contributed 35 points, 5 rebounds, and 11 assists in 40 minutes of playing time.
A pretty performance, right? Well, not according to Mavericks legend-turned-analyst Dirk Nowitzki.
With Nowitzki now an analyst for Amazon Prime’s NBA coverage, fans get to listen to his thoughts on major games around the league.
However, what they wait the most for is Dirk’s comments whenever the Lakers play. After all, he shares an excellent bond with Doncic.
Speaking of their bond, Nowitzki made fun of his former teammate after the Lakers defeated the Mavericks and ended their 2025 NBA Cup group stage without a loss.
“Oh, there he is. You weren’t good enough tonight so we had to take Austin Reaves for the interview sorry my friend,” Nowitzki told Doncic.

Dirk took the hilarious jab after Doncic FaceTimed him during Amazon Prime’s postgame coverage.
It was because the Slovenian star didn’t talk to Nowitzki and the rest of the crew after the game, they interviewed Austin Reaves instead.
While Nowitzki took a light-hearted jab by claiming Reaves’ performance being better than that of Doncic, the once undrafted star did have a phenomenal game.
Reaves finished the night with 38 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists in 41 minutes of playing time. On top of that, he was sensational from the field, shooting 80% from the floor.
So, yes, Reaves had a better game than Doncic, but all that matters is that the Lakers got another dub in the win column as they have now improved to a 14-4 record for the season.
