Disgruntled Warriors Player Makes History in Game 3 Loss

In Game 6 of the Western Conference first-round playoffs between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors, 22-year-old Jonathan Kuminga didn’t see any court time during the Warriors’ 115-107 loss.

Fast forward four games, and the power forward from Congo has now etched his name into the Warriors' record books. Despite another team loss, Kuminga shined in Game 3 at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Kuminga dropped 30 points in 35 minutes, shooting 11-of-18 from the field and going 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Polymarket Hoops noted the historical milestone following the game:

"Jonathan Kuminga is the youngest Warriors player to score 30+ PTS off the bench in the playoffs."

Kuminga and the Warriors have been discussing a contract extension, but talks have stalled. The growing belief is that he’ll test free agency.

He’s wrapping up the final season of his four-year, $24.86 million rookie deal. Reports suggest he’s seeking a new contract worth around $35 million.

This standout performance came on the heels of another strong outing. In Game 2, Kuminga played 26 minutes and scored 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting.

During the regular season, he appeared in 47 games and started 10 — the fewest of his career so far — and averaged 15.3 points per game.

Jimmy Butler led Golden State in scoring with 33 points. Buddy Hield was the only other Golden State scorer in double digits, with 14. Anthony Edwards had a monster game for Minnesota, scoring a game-high 36 points.

The Warriors have been without Steph Curry, who exited Game 1 with a hamstring injury. Golden State now trails 2–1 in the best-of-seven series, with one more home game before heading back to Minnesota for Game 5.

Game 4 between the Warriors and Timberwolves tips off Monday night in San Francisco.
