Doc Rivers: Nets’ Seth Curry is 'The Enemy' in NBA Playoffs
USA TODAY Sports

On Saturday afternoon, former Philadelphia 76ers guard Seth Curry will make his return to the Wells Fargo Center once again as a member of the Brooklyn Nets.

The upcoming series is a bit awkward, considering Curry and Sixers head coach Doc Rivers are families. The battle between Rivers and Curry is nothing new, but the 76ers’ head coach made one thing clear on Wednesday afternoon; Seth Curry is the enemy for the next week or two.

“That’s what we have to make him.” Rivers explained.

There are perks to playing against a family member in the playoffs, as Rivers gets to see his granddaughter when the Sixers pay a visit to Brooklyn next week, but he still anticipates some awkwardness considering the stakes are high compared to regular season hoops.

“I don’t think that’s ever happened,” Rivers explained. “It is a strange component because in the playoffs, you are a little… I don’t know what the word would be. You don’t like the opponent as much. I think we can say it that way. So I’m gonna have to put that in some kind of compartment that I haven’t thought about doing yet.”

As far as trying to gain intel on the enemy, Rivers joked that he’d attempt to get some of the Nets’ strategy.

“I’m gonna ask some [questions] for sure,” Rivers laughed. “I’m gonna see if I can get something out of him, but Seth rarely talks. So I’m pretty sure I’m not gonna get anything out of him, but I’m gonna ask my granddaughter. Maybe she talks to him, and she can tell me some stuff. You never know.”

The Sixers and the Nets are set to begin the series on Saturday in South Philly for Game 1. The two teams will tip off at 1 PM ET.
