Donte DiVincenzo compares Tom Thibodeau firing to Knicks trading him, ‘was more impressed…’

Donte DiVincenzo sees a lot of similarity in his trade from the New York Knicks and Tom Thibodeau’s firing this past June.

The New York Knicks made a bold decision this summer when they decided to fire Tom Thibodeau after five years of great service.

It was a surprising call, as Thibodeau had just led the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance in 25 years.

The Knicks replaced Thibs with Mike Brown, who has hit the ground running in the role. In fact, Brown has already usurped Thibodeau in some key facets.

However, there were several members of the Knicks organization who felt that Thibodeau was treated poorly on the way out. Even one of his former players was surprised to see him go.

Donte DiVincenzo surprised by Tom Thibodeau firing, makes ‘business is business’ point

Former New York Knicks and current Minnesota Timberwolves star Donte DiVincenzo spoke to reporters recently. When asked about Tom Thibodeau’s firing by Ian Begley, he gave a telling response.

DiVincenzo praised Thibodeau for giving him a chance. And while the move surprised him, he did admit that it was a business decision, and compared it to his mindset over his trade from the Knicks.

“For sure. You guys have heard me. I love Thibs. I could talk all day about Thibs. It surprised me, but business is business.

“I think the trade last year (that sent DiVincenzo to Minnesota) was a surprise. So anything in this league is not off the table. You can go across the league and see people get traded, coaches get fired.

“It just is what it is. I was more impressed with seeing him in San Diego. He looked healthy. He looked happy. That’s the good side of it.”

New York Knicks looking to the future with Mike Brown

No matter how you feel about the New York Knicks firing Tom Thibodeau, the franchise has no choice but to put him in its rearview mirror.

Mike Brown is now the man in charge of the Knicks, and he is going to do his best to lead the team to an NBA championship.

The Knicks have everything they need to compete in the East, especially now that some of their biggest rivals are out of the title picture.

If Brown can translate his initial success with the Knicks in preseason into the regular season, the Knicks have a very strong chance to win it all.
