Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s MVP win became public before the NBA’s planned Amazon Prime Video reveal, after Shams Charania reported the result on Sunday morning.

The timing quickly became the story. The award was due to be announced later that evening, but the leak overshadowed part of the league’s own presentation.

Draymond Green criticised Charania, yet his strongest remarks were aimed at the NBA and how the league allowed its biggest individual award to be spoiled.

Draymond Green says NBA cannot let MVP leak happen

On the latest edition of The Draymond Green Show, the seasoned power forward said: “To tweet at 6 o’clock in the morning who the NBA MVP is, it’s actually embarrassing. Like, it makes our league look like we have no organization.

“It makes our league look like child’s play. We can’t hold the winner of the most prestigious individual award in the NBA?

“We can’t hold those results until it’s actually time to be announced? That was a little disappointing. There’s no way that can happen.”

Green also added: “It also can’t be that important to leak information. I thought that was pretty pathetic, if I’m being honest. The NBA has to do something. That can’t be the case.

“Shams has to be in partnership with the NBA to be as prominent as he is. That can’t happen. So I thought that was embarrassing.”

Blake Griffin takes aim at Shams Charania on Prime Video

Blake Griffin took a lighter approach during Prime Video’s coverage, but directed his criticism at Charania after the early report.

Taylor Rooks raised the issue on air alongside Griffin, Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash, noting that former MVPs on the panel had not experienced a similar pre-announcement leak.

Griffin then joked that Charania is a “nerd” and should “go to brunch”, turning the frustration into a broadcast moment while underlining how the leak had disrupted the reveal.
