Golden State Warriors Power Forward Draymond Green recently sent a message to Dallas Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison. Green, 35, didn’t hold back in his thoughts when he commented on the speculation about Harrison, 52, bringing the Luka Doncic trade back in recent days. Read on for Green’s thoughts on the hoopla about Harrison and much more.

Draymond Green’s Message To Nico Harrison

The Luka Doncic trade occurred on February 2, but Nico Harrison appeared to justify trading Doncic, 26, in a press conference on Monday. It remains unknown whether Harrison wanted to trade Doncic or simply served as the fall guy, but his statements were interesting. He did not directly tell reporters that the trade was a mistake. Instead, Harrison appeared to hold tight onto his “defense wins championships” statement.

Green took to his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, to join the discussion and even offered some direct advice to Harrison. Green said, “My advice about four weeks ago was he should have made it his last time talking about Luka [Doncic] … He’s kinda keep saying things and he’s just keeping the story running. You gotta let the story die. You can’t right it. Nothing he’s gonna say is gonna right the ship. He’s gotta silence it and move on.”

Green’s Contrast From Harrison

Draymond Green’s advice to Nico Harrison could be useful. Green highlighted a stark contrast between Harrison compared to Luka Doncic’s reported behavior after the shocking blockbuster trade between the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Utah Jazz on February 2. Doncic doesn’t speak about Harrison and the Mavericks anymore. His goal is to begin a new chapter in Los Angeles with the Lakers.

Doncic’s focus on dedication and efficiency is a far cry from Harrison’s frequent statements about the Doncic trade and subsequent departure from Dallas. Harrison might’ve spoken voluntarily or might’ve been asked to speak involuntarily. Either way, Harrison’s statements can hurt his overall image and reputation instead of helping himself.

Final Thoughts

Draymond Green has a point. Nico Harrison should not speak so much about Luka Doncic. Harrison should start looking ahead as the Dallas Mavericks must turn the page quickly. The Mavericks finished the 2024-25 NBA season with a 39-43 record. They were eliminated at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies, who won 120-106 in the second NBA Play-In Tournament game at the FedExForum on April 18.

The Mavericks’ solid experience and improved defense shouldn’t go to waste. The Mavericks should shift their focus to overall growth, consistency, and stability by building around the current core, avoiding the injury bug, and leaving the Doncic era behind. The Mavericks appear to believe in Anthony Davis, despite Davis’ adductor injury and adjustment to Dallas. The Davis era can begin as long as his strength continues to rise.
