Draymond Green’s 2024 ‘misery’ take fell flat as New York Knicks reach the NBA Finals

Draymond Green’s warning about Knicks misery now looks badly timed, because New York has reached the 2026 NBA Finals behind Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and a ruthless postseason surge.

This is not just a feel-good city story. The Knicks have turned aggressive roster building into a Finals case, and that makes Green’s prediction look thinner.

His point was not only that New York lacked talent. It was that the franchise would mistake one deep run for a finished product.

Draymond Green Knicks take aged poorly

As Dunk Central showed in 2024, Green framed the Knicks’ rise as temporary and predicted a painful comedown for the fan base.

“It’ll be probably another 15 years of misery and we’ll all sit around and laugh at Knicks fans with their delusion.”

That line carried weight because the Knicks were still trying to prove their playoff progress was sustainable. Two years later, it reads like a take that missed the front office’s appetite for risk.

New York has reached its first NBA Finals since 1999 after sweeping Cleveland in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Knicks have also won 11 straight playoff games, with Brunson earning Eastern Conference Finals MVP honors.

That is not misery. That is the best Knicks moment in a generation, with real belief running through Madison Square Garden.

New York Knicks trades built a Finals roster

The biggest reason Green’s prediction fell flat is simple: the Knicks did not freeze after their 2024 disappointment.

New York moved for Mikal Bridges, sending Brooklyn five first-round picks and other assets in a deal built around playoff defense, wing size and balance.

The Knicks then landed Towns in a three-team trade that sent Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota. That raised the offensive ceiling without taking the ball out of Brunson’s hands.

Green can argue those moves came after his comments. Fair enough. But his broader read was that New York would become satisfied, and the Knicks did the opposite.

New York Knicks Finals momentum is real

The Western Conference winner will still be dangerous, whether Oklahoma City or San Antonio comes through.

Still, New York has earned the cleaner runway. The Thunder and Spurs have dealt with injury concerns during a physical series, while the Knicks bought themselves rest.

A championship remains the real finish line. But even before Game 1, this run has already buried the “misery” label.

Fourteen Eastern Conference teams would trade places with the Knicks. Their fans are not delusional for enjoying a Finals team that arrived ahead of schedule.
