Dwight Howard , a former NBA player, thinks he can slow down Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets by matching up effectively with him. On Tuesday, Howard appeared as a guest on “KG Certified,” a show hosted by former star Kevin Garnett. The former top pick spoke highly of his defensive skills, which he argues could match Jokic’s offensive performance.

Howard was one of the top defenders in the league during his time. The 6-foot-10 big man earned the Defensive Player of the Year award three times with the Orlando Magic. In his second stint with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2019-20 season, the eight-time All-Star played significant minutes in their Western Conference finals series against the Nuggets.

In Dwight Howard’s interview with Garnett, he proudly stated that he has what it takes to defend the three-time MVP.

“There’s no doubt in my mind,” Howard said about slowing down Jokic. “Everything was a message, every little thing. It wasn’t just like I was, I was trying to be boisterous with it, talk s**t in a way. But — I wanted him to see that. Every time he looked up, I was right there.”

“Even in the Bubble, all of us had our own meal rooms. I went to his meal room, while he was in there. Just to peak my head in and say what’s up to everybody. Even after the games. Just so I could like, ‘Yeah, I’m here’.”

“I know. On purpose. Let them know I’m here. Wherever you want to go, I’mma be right there. As soon as you step into the game, as soon as the coach look your way to bring you back, I’mma be like this and coach gonna tell me the same thing.”

Howard revealed the tactics he used against Jokic. The former Slam Dunk contest champion said he played mind games with the Serbian big man during their series at the NBA Bubble in 2020. The former All-Star guaranteed he can stop the European player even now.

“If they’d allow me to hoop like they allow him to hoop, I bet you he won’t have them numbers on me.”

Dwight Howard believes the Cleveland Cavaliers have a shot at winning the title this season

The Cleveland Cavaliers had a strong 15-0 start to their season, opening the idea of them being contenders for the Larry O’Brien trophy. In his appearance on Garnett’s show, Dwight Howard stated that Cleveland has a real shot at winning the title this year.

“I look at Cleveland, I think they got a shot this year because they got Donovan,” Howard said.

Howard cited that the Cavs’ young group has the drive and energy to be a threat in the East.
