LA Lakers prospect Bronny James is the talk of NBA Summer League for the second successive year.

Bronny James was the star attraction at Summer League in 2024, and if he was hoping for a more low-key 2025, he was not given this opportunity.

The schedule-makers lined up the LA Lakers to take on the Mavericks, placing Bronny James up against 2025 number one draft pick Cooper Flagg.

James used the game to make a statement about his own improving defense, limiting Flagg to only 10 points, which looked even better when the Mavericks star scored 31 in his following game.

While former player Jeff Teague suggests Bronny James still lacks confidence, Dwyane Wade argues the complete opposite, claiming he sees the 2024 second round pick beginning to thrive.

Dwyane Wade on Bronny James

LeBron James‘ former Miami Heat teammate Dwyane Wade tells his podcast that he has seen Bronny James’ confidence jump.

And after all the debate LeBron James generated about ‘having a bag’, Dwyane Wade used the same phraseology to discuss what Bronny James is currently displaying.

“Bronny’s cold. I watched the moves. I watched his movement.

“Not saying gonna be a 30 pointer game score in the league, but bro, the kid can hoop, and he got all he got, his bag is heavy, his bag is tough. He got it all. It’s really, really cool to see him, his confidence now.”

Wade says he loved seeing how Bronny James took over the game defensively and also showed determination to contribute on offense too.

“If you started seeing it as he went to the G League, and he started dunking on mother_____ and having those games, but you saw it in the first play of Summer League. That just that shows you everything.

“He was like a free safety. ‘OK, he about to spin, let me go get that, then I’m about to take off’.

“That right there I was like, yeah, he good.”

Dwyane Wade still preaches caution

Despite his excitement about Bronny James, and the positive comments from fans, Dwyane Wade is not sold on the Lakers finding a specific role for him in 2025-26.

Wade insists there is no rush, and does not want the conversation about Bronny James’ role to be forced.

Instead, he believes the most important thing is for James to continue developing as he is, and he is confident it will all slot into place naturally, this season or next.

He commented: “Now, I think the one conversation, the one thing will be interesting to see, where Bronny makes his jump.

“I think what Klutch has done, what Rich [Paul] has done, what his father has done is they haven’t rushed this process.

“And so people already want to rush Bronny’s process and say, ‘is he going to be a rotation player for the Lakers right now’. Bronny don’t need to be a rotation player for the Lakers right now.

“He needs to continue to keep developing. His play going to show you when when that step is going to come, but it may not be this year. He still has to develop, but he’s developing so fast in front of our eyes, bro, it’s not a slow development.

“But stop putting pressure on him that he needs to be a rotation player. No, he needs to take the next step in his development, and whatever that provides is what the young man needs to continue to keep doing.”

Wade is simply pleased to see Bronny James proving his ability, to himself above everybody else.

He commented: “And he’s doing an incredible job of putting the work in, and just not even shutting everybody up because it’s not about everybody. But just like proving himself.

“Right in front of the world bro, I think that’s the probably the most beautiful thing about watching Bronny right now.”
