The New York Knicks are one of the heavy favorites to come out of the Eastern Conference this season.
With the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers expected to take a step back, the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers appear to be the teams to beat in the East.
The Knicks continue to find themselves in Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors, but even if they don’t end up trading for The Greek Freak, they still have a roster capable of winning the title.
The Knicks have one of the best starting fives in the NBA and a much improved bench after some nice offseason additions.
Evan Turner says Mike Brown shouldn’t change the coaching style when it comes to Jalen Brunson ‘having the ball in his hands’
One of the biggest changes the Knicks made over the offseason was firing Tom Thibodeau and bringing in Mike Brown.
Mike Brown already seems happy to be in New York and he will have a big role in trying to get this team over the top.
Brown will put a lot of his trust in Jalen Brunson who has become one of the best closers in the game today.
Evan Turner talked about how he doesn’t want to see Brown change up the Knicks’ strategy when it comes to giving Brunson the ball late in games.
“When it comes down to winning time, you get the ball to your killers.
“I don’t think it’s in a disrespectful sense, but I think when you first get a new coach, you get a new system, you’re trying to change a little bit of identity.
“Mike Brown knows there’s nothing that the other team don’t want to see more than Jalen Brunson having the ball in his hands.
“The last 5-10 minutes of the game is always on. Give it to your killer, and he’s proven he can do it.”
The Knicks caught a lot of flack when they fired Thibodeau who came close to leading them to the NBA Finals.
However, a change was needed and Brown, who was also shockingly fired by the Sacramento Kings, can provide the spark New York needs.
The Knicks will boast a complete five, but will still lean on Brunson in key moments.
One of the biggest things that hurt the Knicks last season was the overreliance on their starting five, but going into this season the Knicks have put together a more complete bench.
This should help the Knicks on their quest to winning a championship.
