Exec says Pat Riley, Heat not likely to send Andrew Wiggins to Lakers

The Lakers are reportedly interested in acquiring Heat forward Andrew Wiggins, but one league executive says not to hold your breath.

“I would be stunned if Pat did this trade,” the exec told Lakers Daily. “You really think Pat wants to help LeBron James? He’s still mad about LeBron leaving Miami. I don’t see it happening.”

Wiggins, 30, is set to earn $28.2 million this season and holds a $30.2 million player option for 2026-27.

The former No. 1 overall pick split last season with the Warriors and Heat, averaging 18 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 44.8 percent from the floor and 37.4 percent on threes. He landed in Miami as part of the Jimmy Butler trade.

The Lakers would likely need to include Rui Hachimura in any deal, but the bigger obstacle is Heat president Pat Riley.

Even a decade later, Riley hasn’t forgotten James bolting for Cleveland in 2014 — and few around the league expect him to make life easier for the Lakers by moving Wiggins to Los Angeles.

For now, Wiggins remains part of Miami’s core alongside Tyler Herro, Bam Adebayo and newcomer Norman Powell.

The Lakers, meanwhile, are preparing to open camp with a starting five of Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, Hachimura, James and Deandre Ayton.
