First Look: Nike Kobe Bryant 3 Protro Low 'Mambacita' Arrives This May

The sneaker world always pays close attention when a new Kobe Bryant release is set to be dropped. A fresh “Mambacita” is finally arriving, and the details this time are sentimental, beyond just a new design.

Nike is officially bringing the Nike Kobe 3 Protro Low “Mambacita,” with the style code IQ3916-100. This release honors Gianna “Gigi” Bryant and the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation.

The launch date of this sneaker is May 1, 2026, as it is Gigi’s birthday. The sneakers will be available on the Nike SNKRS app and the official Nike website. Some stores might also offer early access. Further details and official statements can be expected on Nike’s official channels.

The sneaker has a heart-shaped hangtag honoring the foundation. The name “Gigi” is placed on the heel, and the colors of this release match the Mamba Academy uniforms.

The collar padding, eyelet proportions, and internal containment keep the foot protected without compromising ankle mobility. The design and release date clearly present a tribute to Gianna Bryant, while maintaining high performance claims.

A Legacy of Performance and Purpose

The original version of this sneaker was launched in late 2007. Bryant debuted the shoe in a black colorway mid-game during his MVP season.

The shoe also made an appearance during Kobe’s time with the 2008 Redeem Team. At that time, color schemes like the black and white Orca, yellow and purple Christmas, and red and gold All-Star editions became very famous.

Nike revived the sneaker in 2025 under the Performance Retro, or Protro, label. The main motive was to keep the look the same while maintaining the shoe’s performance for today’s athletes.

The performance difference between the 2007 release and this new version is significant. The older model depended on a carbon fiber shank, Lunarlon foam, and only two small Zoom airbags. The new version upgrades to full-length cushioning for a smoother ride.

This edition carries an emotional weight as well. It is a tribute to Gigi and the ongoing great work of the foundation.
