Cooper Flagg had 35 points, and Klay Thompson scored 17 of his 23 in the fourth quarter as the Dallas Mavericks rallied to beat the Los Angeles Clippers 114-110. Dallas capitalized on 18 Los Angeles turnovers to snap a three-game losing streak. Saturday’s loss was the fourth straight for the Clippers, and their seventh in eight games. It was also Los Angeles’ seventh straight home loss.
The Mavericks’ win Saturday was a true team effort. Flagg, the 18-year-old 2025 number one overall pick, scored a career-high 35, including six clutch free throws in the final 1:20. He also added eight rebounds. Thompson hit six three-pointers in the game, four in the fourth quarter, en route to his 23 points. His final three-pointer put Dallas in front to stay with 1:42 to go. Naji Marshall added 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, and Dwight Powell had nine points, six steals, and five rebounds. Brandon Williams pitched in 14 points, seven assists, and three steals off the bench.
Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 30 points and also had eight rebounds. James Harden scored 29 points, dished out 11 assists, and grabbed eight rebounds, but he shot just 5-17 from the field and had seven turnovers. John Collins added 21 points and three blocks, and Ivica Zubac had 19 points and 11 boards for Los Angeles. The Clippers‘ bench shot just 2-for-14 in 66 combined minutes and only scored five points. Los Angeles led by seven at the half, but found themselves tied to start the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was a see-saw affair until Thompson and Flagg took over for the Mavericks late.
With the win on Saturday night, Dallas improves its record to 6-15. The Mavericks will have Sunday off before travelling to Denver to face the Nuggets (14-5). Expect Anthony Davis to be back in the lineup for that game after sitting out Saturday’s game to rest his calf.
The loss drops the Clippers to 5-15 on the season. Next up for Los Angeles is a road trip to Miami for a matchup with the Heat (13-7). Miami will be looking to rebound after having its six-game winning streak snapped by the Detroit Pistons on Saturday, 138-135.
