PHOENIX — Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia announced Monday that former star Steve Nash has been named senior advisor to the team, bringing one of the franchise’s most iconic players back to the organization.
Nash, who played for the Suns from 1996 to 1998 and again from 2004 to 2012, will assist areas such as player development and team strategy. He was a two-time MVP during his tenure with the team, winning the award back-to-back in 2005 and 2006.
“Steve Nash was an amazing player and exactly what the Phoenix Suns are all about,” Ishbia said in a social media post. “His grit, toughness, and winning mentality have defined our organization in the past.”

Nash became one of the league’s premier point guards, helped revolutionize the modern, fast-paced offense and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018. During his time in Phoenix, Nash averaged 14.4 points, 9.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds.
The former Suns star has had previous experience in leadership with an NBA team, serving as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets from 2020 to 2022.
Now reunited with his former team, Nash brings his Hall of Fame intellect and leadership experience to a franchise aiming to return to championship contention.
