Some positive news emerged in the NBA world on Wednesday when former two-time All-Star Victor Oladipo revealed that he has not retired from the NBA and remains determined to return to the league.
Oladipo last played during the 2022 season with the Miami Heat, where he spent his final three seasons. Once a dynamic two-way threat and one of the best guards in the league, his career has been hindered by injuries. However, Oladipo made it clear that he is focused on a comeback in the near future, sharing his plans on his YouTube channel.
"I'm not retiring," Oladipo said. "It's just not what I'm doing right now... I’ve got a ton left in the tank... I'm training, rehabbing every day."
In 2019, Oladipo tore his quad while playing for the Pacers, and unfortunately, he tore the same muscle again in 2021 with the Heat. To make matters worse, he dealt with multiple knee injuries before tearing his patellar tendon with Miami in 2023, which has kept him sidelined ever since. These injuries have led to a series of setbacks, resulting in three major surgeries over the course of just four years.
During his time with the Pacers from 2017 to 2020, he averaged 20.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, leading to back-to-back All-Star Game appearances.
Oladipo's career path has been a winding one. He started with the Orlando Magic, then played one season with the Oklahoma City Thunder before being traded to the Pacers.
After his time in Indiana, he spent a year with the Houston Rockets and then three seasons in Miami. In 2024, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, but was waived before ever playing a game for the organization.
