The Golden State Warriors are expected to make moves this offseason to upgrade the margins of their roster to build around Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green.
This is the case for every team, though, and the deals are expected to start early this year. The expectation is that offseason movement will start before or during the NBA Draft in a big way.
One player who is likely to be dealt this offseason is former Warriors fan favorite and star forward Andrew Wiggins. Many were sad to see the All-Star go in a trade that landed Butler in the Bay Area.
After an underwhelming campaign with the Miami Heat, his current franchise needs to make major moves within their roster, and Wiggins is seen as expendable.
With moves set to be made shortly after the conclusion of the NBA Finals, Jovan Buha of The Athletic has quite an interesting landing spot for Wiggins, as he was linked to the Los Angeles Lakers.
“I like that trade,” Buha said when talking about Wiggins to the Lakers. “I know Wiggins has been a popular guy for Lakers Twitter. He is someone that — I think among the realistic options — he is someone that would check a lot of boxes for the Lakers.”
Wiggins will make $28.2 million next season, with a $30 million player option for the following season. The hypothetical trade Buha was responding to landed Rui Hachimura and his $18.2 million salary in Miami.
Wiggins was essential for the Warriors during their 2022 title run -- the season he made the All-Star team -- which quickly made him a fan favorite in the Bay Area.
The Lakers are aiming to build quickly around Luka Doncic and LeBron James, and targeting Curry's former teammate and running mate would be a great way to onboard a guy with an impressive resume to help them pursue a title.
