Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 2020-21 season remains the pinnacle of his career, as he powered the Milwaukee Bucks to an NBA championship by defeating the Phoenix Suns in the Finals. Yet only four years later, that glorious moment feels increasingly distant. The Bucks’ repeated first-round exits have dimmed the shine of their title run, and even Kendrick Perkins has voiced doubts about Giannis’ commitment to Milwaukee, urging the superstar to stop delaying and formally ask for a trade to a new team.
The Greek Freak and head coach Doc Rivers have already addressed the latest round of trade rumors, both showing clear frustration with the constant speculation. Yet Kendrick Perkins remains firm in his belief that Giannis Antetokounmpo will eventually be traded. The former NBA center repeated his opinion during the newest episode of Road Trippin’.
“It is a headache. We’ve been talking about this for the last three to four years. Every offseason, every time the season ends for the Bucks, ‘Oh, Giannis is going to want out,’” Perkins remarked.
“And then the Bucks, out of desperation to try to please Giannis — and rightfully so — they make moves.”
These roster changes saw the Bucks trade former champion Jrue Holiday to bring in veteran All-Star Damian Lillard. They also dealt longtime teammate Khris Middleton to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Kyle Kuzma. To further bolster their frontcourt, Milwaukee added big man Myles Turner during the offseason.
“Now, do those moves work all the time? Absolutely not. But every offseason, they are aggressive,” Perkins added.
“Here’s the problem Giannis has got to grow a set, he’s got to grow a set. He has to grow some balls. He don’t want to be there, he’s scared to say it. The Bucks know that he doesn’t want to be there. The Bucks know this but they are in denial. The last move they made was desperation. It was a desperate move when they signed Thanasis.”
Perkins argued that Giannis Antetokounmpo has lost the desire to stay with the Bucks. The two-time MVP has made it clear that his main goal is to capture more championships, and at 30 years old, he realizes that every season counts. Yet, many fans and analysts believe Milwaukee’s current lineup doesn’t have what it takes to compete seriously for another championship run.
If Giannis Antetokounmpo finds himself on the trade block, his next stop remains anyone’s guess. The Miami Heat are likely to pursue him aggressively, while the Golden State Warriors could also make a strong push. Regardless of which team lands him, his arrival would immediately transform them into a leading contender for the championship.
