Golden State Warriors expert slams ‘indefensible’ demand Jonathan Kuminga is making for new contract

One Golden State Warriors analyst can’t believe Jonathan Kuminga has the audacity to make these demands.

The Golden State Warriors find themselves in the most excruciating holding pattern when it comes to the negotiations with Jonathan Kuminga.

After Kuminga rejected the Warriors’ $75.2 million offer, the star’s agent went on a massive media tour to explain their stance.

Kuminga’s agent wants the Warriors to offer a player option, rather than the current team option, for the final year of his deal.

In fact, they claimed Kuminga is taking less money to help the Warriors sign players like Al Horford. But one longtime analyst isn’t having any of it.

Mark Willard slams Jonathan Kuminga and agent for ‘bought in’ claims

Mark Willard spoke on his radio show, Willard and Dibs, with Dan Dibley, about the comments Jonathan Kuminga’s agent Aaron Turner made yesterday.

Willard slammed the idea that Kuminga is trying to help the team when the demand for more minutes and a player option are inherently selfish.

“When Aaron Turner, the agent for Jonathan Kuminga, says, ‘Give us a player option and we’re bought in…’ That’s the opposite of being bought in. Like, give me an option to leave and I’ll be bought in…

“And it’s reminiscent in a large sense of what he then admitted Jonathan does within games. When they said, ‘Give me minutes, and I’ll rebound. Don’t, and I won’t.’

“I don’t care who you are and who you like in this situation, there’s no way in hell you can not be offended by that… The idea that I rebound a lot when you play me a lot. What?! That’s an indefensible position.”

Golden State Warriors may not have any other choice with Jonathan Kuminga

For all the sense that Willard is making, it might not matter. Jonathan Kuminga and his agent have the Golden State Warriors over a barrel.

The franchise haven’t made things easier for themselves. Steve Kerr demanding Kuminga play like Aaron Gordon is not a good look for him.

Furthermore, we know that Kuminga taking the $7.9 million qualifying offer is the Warriors’ nightmare scenario, as it comes with a no-trade clause.

Hopefully, the Warriors’ front office can quickly resolve this situation, as they don’t have much time left before the October 1st deadline.
