The Memphis Grizzlies may be without star Ja Morant for the remainder of the regular season due a tweaked knee, coach Taylor Jenkins said Thursday, via Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Morant, 22, will be re-evaluated in two weeks after undergoing an MRI and X-ray on his right knee this week due to soreness. The point guard sat out the last two games, but the Grizzlies managed to beat the Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets anyway.
With only nine games left on the Grizzlies' regular season schedule, it's possible the knee injury will keep Morant out until the postseason.
Morant earned his first All-Star nod this season and is averaging 27.6 points per game with 6.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds. Memphis reached 50 wins for the first time in seven years with its 132-120 win against the Nets on Wednesday. If the Grizzlies manage to win seven of their last nine, the team would set a franchise record for wins in a season.
The Grizzlies are currently second in the Western Conference, nine games behind the Phoenix Suns for first place. Memphis has a two-game lead over the Golden State Warriors.
