The Miami Heat pulled off a big win over the Washington Wizards on Sunday, 132-101, but they lost Norman Powell in the process. The Heat came into Sunday’s matchup after back-to-back losses, and they got back on track with a blowout win over the lowly Wizards.

Powell, however, left the game due to a back injury. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard was not able to return. He finished with 21 points on 5-of-12 shooting, four rebounds, a steal and five three-pointers in 25 minutes of action.

Powell is now in danger of missing Miami’s next game, as the 32-year-old veteran is nursing multiple injuries.

Powell is in the midst of a big year with the Heat. Entering Sunday’s contest, the one-time NBA champion guard averaged 23.0 points on 47.5% shooting, 3.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.2 steals. He was also knocking down 2.8 triples on a 39.3% clip. Powell was rewarded for his strong play with his first career All-Star selection.

The Heat made an announcement in the fourth quarter about Powell.

“#MIAvsWAS INJURY UPDATE: Norman Powell left today's game vs the Wizards with lower back tightness and will not return,” the team posted on X.

As of writing, the team has not revealed the full details of Powell’s back issue. However, it appears that the injury is not serious. The fact that the Heat play again on Monday against the Utah Jazz on the second night of a back-to-back sat may have been a factor in their decision to have Powell sit out the rest of Sunday’s contest.

It is worth noting that Powell is also nursing a sprained right hand. He entered Sunday’s game with a questionable tag but was eventually upgraded to available. For now, his status for Monday’s matchup against the Jazz is uncertain.

The Heat improved to 28-26 after beating the Wizards. As of writing, they are eighth in the Eastern Conference.
