Heat Need to Add Young Star to Trade to Land Kevin Durant From Suns
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

As the NBA offseason nears, trade rumors are heating up and many of them have been centered around Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant.

The Suns are coming off a terrible season that saw them finish 11th in the Western Conference with an abysmal 36-46 record as they missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2019-20 campaign.

Due to this, Phoenix is expected to make some major changes to their roster this summer and Durant is one of the players likely to be on the move.

There have already been many teams linked to Durant this offseason but three have stood out above the rest in the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets, all of whom were named as Durant’s preferred landing spots.

While these teams have emerged as the favorites to land Durant from the Suns, there have been reports that Phoenix has not been intrigued by any offers thus far, but according to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, that could change if the Heat were to include one of their young stars.

“Although the two sides are not right at the finish line yet in trade talks, one player can get them there. That would be Kel'el Ware, a rookie standout in Miami's frontcourt who is a giant with his 7-foot-4 wingspan and two-way potential,” Siegel wrote. “If the Heat include Ware in a revamped package to what they have already offered, talks with the Suns will reach a whole new level, as he is the player Phoenix wants in discussions with Miami.”

Of course, Ware had a great rookie season in Miami where he was even inserted into the starting lineup next to Bam Adebayo.

Because of his play, the Heat have been lenient on including him in trade talks for Durant but with the Suns desperately needing a new starting center, it is likely that if they will have to include him in a potential trade package.

If they are unwilling to do so, it may be difficult for Miami to get a deal done for Durant and they will instead have to look elsewhere to upgrade their roster.
