The Toronto Raptors are still searching for their next president of basketball operations, left vacant when Masai Ujiri resigned last month, and the team reportedly has a frontrunner already.
According to Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press, former Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey is one of the top candidates, alongside current general manager Bobby Webster, for the coveted front office position.
“Casey has been through multiple rounds of interviews with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the Toronto-based company that owns the Raptors,” Sankofa explained in his column.
“They’re looking for a new leader after parting ways with former president and vice chairman Masai Ujiri in June after 12 years, and are open to a reunion with Casey, the coach who helped them emerge as an Eastern Conference contender a decade ago,” he added.
As mentioned, the Toronto Raptors are also considering general manager Bobby Webster as a frontrunner for the vacated team president position, so much so that Michael Grange of Sportsnet believes that it’s “his to lose.”
“A number of league insiders I have spoken with believe that the team’s general manager, Bobby Webster, is the leading candidate for the role,” Grange said in his column.
“Bobby’s to lose’ was a line I heard around Las Vegas, though how much of that was informed speculation and how much was deductive reasoning — Webster is a well-liked and well-respected executive both within the MLSE and across the NBA, so why mess with it? — was hard to discern,” he added.
