The Golden State Warriors are still the only team in the league without their roster set.
Much of their offseason business has hit a standstill because of Jonathan Kuminga’s unresolved contract situation.
Deals for players such as Al Horford, Gary Payton II, and De’Anthony Melton are still up in the air.
However, that situation does not shake Stephen Curry’s faith in his team. In fact, he believes they now have a significanta dvantage for next season.
Curry is optimistic about the impact Jimmy Butler can have in his first full season with the Golden State Warriors. While Butler arrived mid-season via trade, he will now have a chance to settle in and adapt to their style of play.
“It’s a great advantage. Doesn’t necessarily guarantee results, but I think it will really help us kind of hone in on what’s our best self, what everybody’s supposed to be, and give good expectations.”
Jimmy Butler’s basketball intelligence and leadership earned praise from the two-time MVP.
“Jimmy [is] such a high IQ dominant player, Draymond, I know he’s got a lot left, myself, so we’re gonna take advantage of it. Get prepared. Get on the same page,” Curry said.
Butler’s arrival eased the load on Curry, adding a physical inside presence. Though his scoring (17.9 PPG) was a career low, he proved his value with 5.9 assists and 1.7 steals.
The Warriors made it to the Western Conference semifinals last season but fell short after Curry went down with an injury. With better health and a more settled lineup, expectations have grown considerably.
There are questions about the age of Golden State’s core group – Curry, Butler, and Draymond Green are all in their 30s – but the point guard isn’t concerned.
“With age comes wisdom… We are going to be well prepared for another run,” he said, backing the group’s experience to carry them forward again.
