The Houston Rockets have been named as the ideal trade destination for Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, according to ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins. On a recent video from the show, “Road Trippin’,” Perkins went on a rant about the recent trade the Orlando Magic made with the Memphis Grizzlies. During the video, he also explained how the Rockets are the ideal landing spot for the two-time Finals MVP.
There has been some talk about Durant’s future with the Suns. After an abysmal 2024-25 NBA season, many believe the 15-time All-Star will leave Phoenix in the summer. KD will be in the final year of his four-year, $194 million contract and will look to play for a contending team moving forward.
Last week, Durant revealed his preferred landing spots if a trade with the Suns comes to fruition. The Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat are his favorite teams to play for next in a potential trade.
His former teammate, Perkins, explained why the Rockets would be a perfect team for him.
“It’s time for Kevin Durant to get to a place where he can actually call home,” Perkins said.
“The best place for Kevin Durant is the Houston Rockets. Why? The Houston Rockets, they have the pieces to give up to put a package together and they also could give up a lot while keeping a lot to make them contenders.
“The only two people that’s not — the only two people that’s untouchable is [Alperen] Sengun and Amen Thompson. So, you package Jabari Smith Jr. and Jalen Green and Cam Whitmore and some picks and you bring in Kevin Durant with Ime Udoka, you got some action there.”
Perkins added that Durant should want to play in Houston since he’ll be coached by someone he knows and respects. During KD’s stint with the Brooklyn Nets, Ime Udoka was one of the assistant coaches.
The Houston Rockets are determined to keep their core intact. On Saturday, they re-signed backup center and fan favorite Steven Adams to a new deal. The Kiwi big man signed a three-year, $39 million contract extension to stay in Houston until the 2027-28 NBA season.
Adams was an important player for the Rockets during the NBA playoffs. In their seven-game series against the Golden State Warriors, the big man averaged 5.7 points and 6.6 rebounds in 22.1 minutes. Last season was the first time he played for the Rockets. During the 2023-24 season, he recovered from a PCL surgery/
Despite missing the entire season, he played well with the Rockets and proved to be a valuable member of the team.
