How Did Rick Carlisle Trigger Eye Rolls?

Going from the most efficient offense in the NBA to the ninth isn't the worst slide, but it's a dip nonetheless. Moreover, having the ninth-ranked offensive rating and 24th-ranked defensive rating gets you the eighth in the Eastern Conference for the 2024-25 season. Given their current position, the Indiana Pacers partook in eye-rolling training methods.

Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle understands what it takes to win an NBA championship. For one, competing on both sides of the ball is necessary. However, in light of Indiana's less-than-stellar defense, the Eastern Conference Finals runner-up must perform near perfect on offense.

Ahead of Monday's Pacers vs. Brooklyn Nets matchup, Carlisle revealed how his team has improved on offense, regardless of what some players feel about the methods.

Carlisle revealed he took an elementary approach to recent practices. Instead of advanced sets and intense scrimmages, Carlisle utilized an A-B-C method for the Pacers.

The Pacers' head coach claims the team lessened its turnovers by practicing simple passing and catching drills. Despite the eye rolls, Carlisle says the fundamental method worked.

On the season, Indiana ranks ninth in turnover percentage. However, in their previous five games, they went 3-2. Amid their 3-2 stretch, they ranked second in turnover percentage behind the Niukola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets.

Although there is no way to quantify the percentage the passing training deserves, the timing of Carlisle's claims aligns with the recent success.

Eye rolls or not, Carlisle's championship experience commands respect, and considering the Pacers' poor start, they can't afford to practice with a closed mind.
