Victor Wembanyama is excited to play for the San Antonio Spurs again after being officially cleared from the blood clot scare he had a few months ago.
“I’m officially cleared to return. It just happened — I got the green light from the Spurs’ medical staff just a few hours ago (last Friday). Phew, I’ll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again!” Wembanyama told L’Equipe via Maxime Aubin on X (formerly known as Twitter).
The San Antonio Spurs center missed almost half of the 2024-25 campaign due to the blood clots he had in his shoulder. Wembanyama played 46 regular season matches, averaging 24.2 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 3.8 blocks on 47.6 percent shooting from the field.
San Antonio looked like a team that could’ve snuck into the playoffs last season before Wembanyama was shut down. The team eventually finished 13th in the Western Conference with a 34-48 record.
Victor Wembanyama also expressed his desire to stay with the San Antonio Spurs throughout his NBA career, which is a rarity in the NBA nowadays.
“I know that not every player in the NBA has the same ambitions,” Wembanyama said. “But it’s obviously my dream to spend my entire career with a single franchise. Here. In San Antonio.”
Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan, and Kobe Bryant are some notable players who stayed with one franchise throughout their NBA careers, and Wembanyama hopes to join them when it’s all said and done.
