Kevon Looney recently admitted that he grew frustrated with his diminishing role as a third-string center for the Golden State Warriors , a huge reason he left the team to join the New Orleans Pelicans on a two-year deal this offseason.
Speaking on the Warriors Plus Minus podcast, the three-time NBA champion said that the Game 7 against the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2025 playoffs was the final straw.
“We’re going against Steven Adams. This is what I do. It’s like ya’ll don’t trust me,” Looney explained. “They put me in that, at the end of Game 7, while we were at the way to that point. They’re not giving me the chance to really let me do what I do. It’s like, all right, y’all don’t trust me. I thought y’all would trust me.”
“You get sick of that at some point. When you prove yourself the first four or five years, at the 10th year it’s like, ah, you either trust me, or you don’t,” he added.
Stephen Curry is not buying the idea that the Golden State Warriors are “too old” to compete for another NBA championship.
“We’ve heard it for even before the 2022 championship,” Curry said via NBC Sports Bay Area. “It all comes down to health. I mean, if you look at every team… (Oklahoma City) had a relatively healthy run, and that’s what you need. Like, vets get through a regular season. Try to be in a position where we’re not chasing anything down the stretch.”
“I know I got hurt. But you just want to build off that for another year to build chemistry with Jimmy. You know Draymond will do his thing. Hopefully, some of our young guys are able to take another step. That’s every-year process. Just take what we did great, know we’re going to have to elevate that and do it more consistently for a whole year,” he added.
