Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas has recorded 10 assists in his first two preseason games against Hapoel Jerusalem and the Phoenix Suns. For context, he has never averaged more than four assists in his NBA career.

Speaking to reporters during the Brooklyn Nets’ 132-127 overtime loss to the Phoenix Suns in Macau last night, Thomas said that, despite his improved assist numbers, he remains a score-first guard.

“No, I’m just playing my game,” Thomas explained via Fadeaway World. “Whatever that is. Most teams are going to double-team me… When the guys make the shots, it’s going to lead to assists. So, I mean, I’m just going to play my game, and if that requires the assist, great. But, at the end of the day, I’m still a scorer.”

“I’m still a scorer at heart. But it’s also adding that playmaking aspect, being able to make the right play and keep the defense honest. So, I mean, definitely just going to read the game. So, some games it might be a lot of assists, and most of the games are going to be a lot of points, but it’s just about reading the game and taking what the defense gives me,” he reiterated.

Brooklyn Nets News: Joe Tsai makes “rebuilding” admission about the team

Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai recently admitted that the team is on a rebuild this year. This summer, Brooklyn had a record-breaking five first-round picks, which they used to select Egor Demin (eighth overall), Nolan Traore (19th overall), Drake Powell (22nd overall), Ben Saraf (26th overall), and Danny Wolf (27th overall).

“Well, I have to say that we’re in a rebuilding year,” Tsai said on the All-In podcast. “We spent all of our (2025) picks, we had five first-round draft picks this past summer.”

“We have one pick in 2026, and we hope to get a good pick. So you can predict what kind of strategy we will use for this season. But we have a very young team,” he continued.
