Free agency has officially dried out, and the Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga still aren't seeing eye-to-eye. Per most reports, he doesn't want to return to the Bay Area, yet his options are limited because of his restricted free agency.
Kuminga didn't get the big-money deals his camp was hoping for, and while the Warriors would gladly agree to a sign-and-trade, they want to get what they believe to be fair value in return for his services.
Considering that, Clutchpoints' Brett Siegel shared the latest scoop on this stalemate, detailing Kuminga's best-case scenario in this situation.
"Finding common ground on a two-year deal is the best scenario that can play out for both Kuminga and the organization at this juncture," wrote Siegel. "Whether this is by accepting his one-year qualifying offer or receiving a player option on said two-year deal that has been presented, Kuminga appears to be heading to the open market after the 2025-26 season."
The Warriors have reportedly offered him a two-year deal worth $45 million, but Kuminga's camp wants to be in full control of his future, according to Siegel's report.
The team could still choose to improve that offer to end the stalemate and make some free-agency moves, but it would take a lot for Kuminga to regain faith in an organization that wouldn't mind watching him go at a fair price.
They haven't been able to sign Al Horford and De'Anthony Melton because of this situation, and with money drying out around the league, the clock is ticking for both parties here.
Someone will have to cave at one point, and while Kuminga has every right to want to be in control of his future, he might be better off taking the more lucrative deal and trying to find a trade partner before the trade deadline instead of the $7.9 million qualifying offer for one season.
Kuminga averaged roughly 15 points per game last season, failing to hold onto his starting spot, and that's unlikely to change for as long as Jimmy Butler is there.
