The Boston Celtics are not projected as favorites in the 2025-26 season, but they have built a competitive roster. Team president Brad Stevens parted ways with the older players, but he made some shrewd signings that could pay off.
Jaylen Brown, Payton Pritchard, and Derrick White remain from their championship core, as they attempt to stand in for Jayson Tatum. Amongst the newest players, Brown loves what he is seeing from Josh Minott.
For the first three seasons of his NBA career, Minott played sporadic minutes with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He only played 93 games in his stint with the Timberwolves, which was a limited stint because he played behind Jaden McDaniels and Anthony Edwards.
Now that he's in Boston, Minott has become an impressive player for the coaches and his teammates. Brown, in particular, loves what he has seen from the young forward, who would be one of his backups in the 2025-26 season.
While Minott has been around for a while, he has yet to prove himself a reliable player. Now that he is with Boston, he can grab the opportunity to cement himself with his new two-year contract.
Thankfully, he has been superb in training camp and during preseason. At only 22, he has tons of potential, especially with his hard work whenever he is maximizing his athleticism.
Brown thinks that is a big strength that the Celtics can benefit from. Minott is a lesser-known player in the big picture, but Boston sees him as a potential difference-maker.
"He's a long, athletic wing – something that we could've used over the past years or so. He’s somebody that’s high-energy, super athletic. We need that," Brown said about Minott.
“He’s a beast.”

Jaylen Brown is impressed by Josh Minott – the “Lawnmower” that doesn’t stop running ⤵️
"We’re looking forward to finding him in transition, finding him in closeout situations, because he's a beast that could help us out for sure."
In the preseason, Minott has been a standout that Celtics fans love. He has been superb, which includes a 16-point night over the weekend. Minott is an athletic player who can make a difference because he also has the potential to improve as an offensive player.
Apart from Minott, the team has also improved beyond its core group of players. Anfernee Simons has been a welcome addition, as he and Payton Pritchard are competing for the starting point guard spot.
BIG shout-out to Josh Minott ☘️

He's the hero of Celtics preseason so far! The 22-year-old forward got 16 points last night, including a pair of impressive dunks: pic.twitter.com/iQdTyLqOCE
Under head coach Joe Mazzulla, anything is possible for the Celtics. However, Minott wants to be one of the standouts, as seen in his interview with the Celtics media.
"I love where my feet are. I love the environment, I love the people around me. Great staff, training staff, group of guys – couldn’t ask for anything better from top to bottom," Minott said to the Celtics reporters.
"He’s really just trying to push me to my limit. He’s trying to get me to play harder. Even when I think I'm playing hard, he's always trying to just get me past that point."
With this kind of mentality and the support from the fans and team, Minott has the opportunity to surprise people in Boston.
