A loose-ball scramble between Jaylen Brown and Grayson Allen escalated into something more during Saturday’s game between the Philadelphia 76ers and Charlotte Hornets.

Brown drove to the basket midway through the fourth quarter and got swarmed by Hornets near the baseline at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C. Both he and Allen ended up on the hardwood grappling for the ball.

A scuffle ensued as the ball went out of bounds. Allen pushed away Brown’s arm as the Hornets guard tried to get up. Brown took exception to the push and shoved Allen back down.

Players from both sides got in between Brown and Allen before the incident escalated further. Both players were assessed technical fouls.

The Hornets led for most of Saturday’s game. But Brown and the 76ers came roaring back late for a 109-104 comeback victory. Brown finished with a modest stat line of 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Allen led the Hornets in scoring with 27 points and 7 three-pointers off the bench.

Allen is no stranger to on-court shenanigans — a reputation that has followed him since his college days. Perhaps the hostility toward Brown was also partly due to the Sixers star’s ongoing “lamb chop” with fellow Duke alum Jayson Tatum.
