Jaylen Brown Off-Court News Announced Amid NBA Playoffs

Jaylen Brown has a large part to do with the Boston Celtics’ unexpectedly successful regular season. Before the start of the year, expectations were low for the Celtics due to Jayson Tatum recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. If you were to declare before the start of the season that Boston would, for example, finish 56-26 and No. 2 in the Eastern Conference, it would require some sensational play by Brown.

Brown did just that all year, winning the NBA Player of the Month award for January, leading the Celtics in steals per game (1.2), and ending the season with 28.7 points per game, good enough for fourth in the league.

As great as Brown has been on the basketball court, his actions off the court are just as recognizable. The Joseph Wheeler High School graduate has been heavily involved in lower-income neighborhoods in the Boston area, founding the nonprofit Boston XChange and the 7uice Foundation. Brown has also lectured at Harvard, knows multiple languages, and was formerly the youngest vice president in NBA Players Association history.

On Tuesday, Boston Magazine released its “150 Most Influential Bostonians in 2026.” Some notables included Drake Maye and Mike Vrabel of the New England Patriots finishing first, and new Boston team owner William “Bill” Chisholm coming in at No. 74. Also finishing in the top 10 was Celtics guard Brown. Below is the full quote from the article.

“Five-time All-Star, 400+ youth served at inaugural Education Fair,” Boston Magazine wrote. “What does an NBA superstar do on his day off? If you’re Brown, you host a fundraising bowling event for Boston kids or an education fair in Roxbury, with more than 50 partnering organizations. Now in his 10th season wearing green—and carrying the Celtics through Jayson Tatum’s Achilles injury—Brown is having his best year yet, averaging career highs across the board. He’s stepped up on and off the court, and the city adores him for it.”

That same day, the Celtics went to social media to react to the news. In an Instagram post, Boston posted an image congratulating the two Celtics members on the list, with Chisholm on top and Brown underneath. Boston reinforced the admiration in the caption.

“Difference makers ,” the Celtics wrote. “Congrats JB & Bill on your selection to @bostonmagazine’s 150 Most Influential Bostonians.”

Boston will face the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden at 7 p.m. ET.
