As the Boston Celtics enter what is set to be their most challenging season this decade, Jaylen Brown sent a message of gratitude to his former teammates.
The Boston Celtics knew they had to call time on their 2024 NBA championship roster the moment Jayson Tatum went down with an Achilles injury.
This offseason, the Celtics traded Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers in a much-anticipated move, given his age.
They followed this up by trading Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks. The departures continued, with backup center Luke Kornet joining the San Antonio Spurs.
And with Al Horford close to joining the Golden State Warriors, there isn’t much left of their championship roster from a year ago.
Jaylen Brown spoke during his stream about what the summer has been like for the Boston Celtics. He called it a ‘healing summer’ ahead of a new era for the team.
However, the former Finals MVP also acknowledged, thanked, and lamented his Celtics championship teammates, many of whom have left the team.
“This whole summer has been crazy. A healing summer. It’s a new era of the Celtics. Feels like a new era. Half the team is gone.
“I wish them the best. I appreciate them. They were great teammates. It’s kinda sad to see them go. It’s a new era, everything has kind of changed and shifted… We’ll see.”
Jaylen Brown said it feels like a new era for the Celtics on his stream today:

With Jayson Tatum out for the entirety of this coming season, the Boston Celtics know they can’t compete for an NBA championship.
Their expectations this season are to be competitive, while giving some of their younger players more reps so they can develop ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
While Payton Pritchard has earned a Celtics starting role, make no mistake about it – this is now Jaylen Brown’s team. He will be responsible for their successes and failures.
Even though the Celtics are not title contenders this season, there is still a standard that Brown and the squad have to adhere to.
