Jayson Tatum Grateful for Game 7 Opportunity After 10-Month Injury Absence

Jayson Tatum is grateful for the chance to play in Game 7, and that being sidelined made him appreciate every opportunity to compete.

On April 30, the Celtics never found rhythm. Every run that Jaylen Brown & Co. made met with an immediate response. Despite holding a 3-1 series lead, the team failed to close the series and now faces a decisive Game 7.

After the game, a reporter asked Jayson Tatum if he felt tired or bummed heading into Game 7. He shut that down immediately.

“No, I’m not bummed. I was out for 50 weeks. I wasn’t able to play basketball, so I got another opportunity to play the game that I love,” said JT in a grateful tone. “Kinda thankful that we have another opportunity, that we have another chance to make it right.”

He tied the mindset to his recovery, which kept him out for approximately 50 weeks following his Achilles injury in the 2025 playoffs.

The superstar spent 10 months recovering after tearing his Achilles tendon in the 2025 playoffs. Following that, he could play only 16 games in the regular season before gearing up for the postseason.

During his return, he had a similar expression. “Just being back on the floor and playing basketball again,” he said after his first game back on 6th March. “It just kind of brought me back to everything I’ve been through the last 10 months.”

However, Tatum had a quiet outing in Game 6, scoring just 17 points in a closeout game and never taking control. He also left the game briefly in the third quarter to treat a left calf issue and was seen nursing it with an ice pack on the bench during the fourth quarter.

Meanwhile, the Sixers’ core delivered when needed. Tyrese Maxey led with 30 points, Paul George knocked down 5 three-pointers, and Joel Embiid added 19 points with an all-around effort.

Philadelphia 76ers Enter Game 7 on Back-to-Back Elimination Wins

The 76ers enter Game 7 on a red-hot streak. They have won back-to-back elimination games and carry momentum.

“In this moment, we just stayed together. We stayed confident. We stayed poised,” said Paul George. “We’ve given ourselves a chance here, being down 3-1, with an unbelievable opportunity to go play a Game 7.”

The Celtics still hold home-court advantage, but Philadelphia has built rhythm at the right time. They have already proven they can win at TD Garden with two upsets.

In the meantime, the Celtics hold home-court advantage for Game 7, having won the series opener at TD Garden. The former NBA champs can show up when it’s needed the most.
