Jazz Acquiring Georges Niang In Trade With Celtics

The NBA minivan is on the move once again.

More specifically, for the second time this offseason, Georges Niang is being traded. This time, it’s from the Boston Celtics back to the Utah Jazz, where Niang played from 2017-21.

Per Shams Charani of ESPN, the Celtics are sending Niang and two future second-round picks to Utah for rookie RJ Luis Jr.

“Niang returns to Utah now and his salary goes into the massive John Collins trade exception along with two draft assets,” Charania wrote. “The move allows the Celtics to have more salary relief below the second apron.”

Niang, 32, was traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Atlanta Hawks in February, then from the Hawks to the Celtics after the season as part of the Kristaps Porzingis deal. Boston has spent most of the offseason shedding salary, and Niang was just the latest victim of those cuts.

He appeared in 79 games overall last season, averaging 9.9 points and 3.4 rebounds. He averaged a career-high 12.1 points in 28 games with the Hawks, shooting 41 percent on 3-pointers.
