The Golden State Warriors have faced many ups and downs this season. They’d have liked a better record, but their 25-21 tally (eighth in West) means they have built some space for a big run. But it may only get tougher from here.
During the Warriors’ 135-112 win Monday against the Miami Heat, their veteran two-way guard Jimmy Butler suffered a torn ACL. The injury is so severe that the guard has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.
On that note, will this injury impact Butler's plans for the Warriors? ESPN NBA analyst Brian Windhorst discussed Butler’s injury on his “The Hoop Collective” podcast.
There is a chance that Butler misses a significant chunk or all of the 2026-27 season, too. Windhorst discussed how the All-Star-level player is planning the rehab with the Warriors. Windhorst went into how Butler wants to endure this tough period with his team and has no intention of leaving.
“Of course, Jimmy is vowing to come back and get back by early next season, which is not impossible, but any time next season, I think would be a win,” Windhorst said. “From what I understand, he intends to rehab with the Warriors, with [director of sports medicine and performance] Rick Celebrini, who's very highly respected. I think he wants to send the message, I want to be here.”
But Windhorst was unsure if the Warriors will keep Butler during his recovery period. He wondered if Butler would be the same player when he returns.
While Windhorst acknowledged Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy’s comments about retaining the player, he also pointed out that you can never know when a trade happens behind the scenes.
Butler is a crucial player for the Warriors. He was their second-highest scorer, averaging 20 points per game, and still brings tough defense to the table. Let us see what moves the Warriors make to fill the void.
