Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Goodwin dominated in the preseason matchup.
The Los Angeles Lakers have made a plethora of changes to their roster this offseason, including parting ways with Jordan Goodwin.
The soon-to-be 27-year-old guard then signed with the Phoenix Suns. Since then, Goodwin has claimed he has improved as a player.
He proved that by outscoring Devin Booker in a preseason win. Goodwin continued that excellent form against his former team in a recent preseason matchup.
The Lakers were haunted by Goodwin’s 24-point performance as his replacement, Marcus Smart, finished the night with 0 points.
After the game, Lakers head coach JJ Redick shared his honest opinion on Goodwin’s impressive performance in the 113-104 loss.
“Just the nature of how things played out this summer, I don’t know how much I can say about that, but I loved Goodie, I loved coaching him,” Redick said after the game.
He added: “To me, he’s an NBA player and I think every coach in the league would love to have a guy like him, no nonsense, plays hard, great teammate.”
During the regular season, Goodwin may not score 20-plus points on a nightly basis, but the qualities that Redick described will make him a key member for the Suns.

Although Redick coached Goodwin for just 29 games during the 2024-25 season, he still highly rates him. Why? He does the non-glamorous things for the team.
“Does all the stuff that as a teammate it’s probably hard to ask guys to do because it’s not glamorous and he just embraces it,” Redick continued.
He concluded, stating: “I’ve seen him play enough and I’ve watched him as his coach and I’ve seen him prior, I’m not surprised that he was able to have a really strong offensive night.”
The Suns have now improved their preseason record to 3-1 ahead of the regular season. On the other hand, the Lakers have fallen to a 1-3 record.
