One thing that has been very apparent since Collin Sexton has taken the court for the Los Angeles Lakers is the energy and intensity he brings. Whether it is picking up 94 feet on defense or attacking the rim with reckless abandon on offense, Sexton brings a level of intensity that very few can match, even if he isn’t playing particularly well.

Sexton recently had easily his best game of the early season, finishing with 21 points in the Lakers’ 103-87 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. And afterwards, head coach JJ Redick spoke about his love for Sexton’s competitive fire.

“Sometimes it’s hard to get his attention because he gets locked in,” Redick said. “He’s in the zone. I love it. I love the competitive fire. We’ve seen some of the stuff defensively for our group where we’re like alright we can be good. We have a lot of things we gotta get better at, but we have the makeup to be a decent defensive team, if not a really good defensive team.

“Tonight was a great example of, we got a lot of work. You know we’re best offense in the league or whatever we were in the first four games. It’s like the spacing stuff, timing, all that stuff, all these guys got a lot of stuff to do. But Collin, there’s some stuff for spacing that he needs to work on, but I also like when he’s just in go mode. It puts pressure on the defense, he’s touching the paint. Those two threes that he had in the third were huge for us.”

To say Sexton is locked in would be an understatement. In fact, there was a video going viral online of Sexton defending Clippers guard Cam Christie with a look in his eyes that is rarely seen on the basketball court.

Redick has previously described Sexton as having a certain level of insanity when he’s on the court and that is extremely fitting as well. But the Lakers feed off it and that energy he brings will be big for this team all season long.

Collin Sexton describes his on-court style

Sexton turns into a different person once he steps on the court as he is pretty soft spoken off it, but turns into a demon in between those lines. And in describing his on-court persona, Sexton said he looks at is as being ready to go to war.
