With the offseason underway for most of the NBA, early speculation around the Celtics suggests that Jrue Holiday may be the more likely trade candidate over fellow guard Derrick White, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Holiday, 33, has three years remaining on his four-year, $134 million contract, including a $37.2 million player option in the final season.
White, meanwhile, begins a new four-year, $118 million extension next season that carries a $34.8 million player option in 2028-29.
While Kristaps Porziņgis’ $30.7 million expiring deal is considered the most movable on Boston’s roster, league executives remain cautious due to the illness that sidelined the 7-footer late in the regular season and into the playoffs.
The expectation that Boston would need to make some roster tweaks existed even before the Achilles tendon injury to All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum — an injury that is now expected to keep him out for the 2025-26 season.
Now, with looming tax apron penalties and a retooled Eastern Conference, the Celtics may find themselves forced to do more than just tweak.
