Julius Randle returning to All-Star form for Knicks

Julius Randle's frustrating play last season left Knicks fans wondering whether he'd ever repeat his All-NBA-level form of 2020-21.

Over the past seven games, however, the former All-Star has played as well as he ever has for the Knicks. During that stretch, Randle averaged 27.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists, and the Knicks (14-13) won five of seven games and four straight.

Last Wednesday's historic stat line in a win over Atlanta illustrates Randle's recent dominance.

Sunday's 112-99 win over Sacramento was beginning to look like one of Randle's best performances of the season before an ill-advised third-quarter ejection ended his night early. In 27 minutes, he had 27 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

With the offseason addition of guard Jalen Brunson, Randle became the team's second option, and he has thrived in his new role.

Randle's 53.4% effective field-goal percentage is his highest as a Knick. That figure is a testament to him shooting less and staying away from long, step-back jump shots.

Most importantly, Randle has cut down on turnovers, averaging nearly one less per game than last season.

A foot contusion may force Brunson to miss time, per Fred Katz of The Athletic, but if Randle's hot streak continues, New York could add to its win streak.

The Knicks have turned a corner since switching their rotation. In its next three games, New York will play Chicago (11-15) twice in a row before a game at Indiana (14-14). A seven-game win streak is possible.

If the Knicks slide, perhaps they'll even kick the tires on a Randle trade. Given Randle's recent play, his trade value may not get any higher.
