NBA ESPN Analyst Kendrick Perkins revealed that only the Sacramento Kings showed real interest in Russell Westbrook this offseason. In his eyes, though, there’s one team that should’ve called already, the Milwaukee Bucks.
“I think he should be on the Milwaukee Bucks right now, I really do”, Perkins stated. He also mentioned that Westbrook’s unfair reputation he picked up with the Los Angeles Lakers, is the reason he is not on an NBA roster.
Westbrook may not get triple-doubles as often as he used to, but he still plays very hard. He can push the game forward, drive to the basket, and help his teammates get good shots. This could create more space for Giannis Antetokounmpo to play effectively.
It’s puzzling that the Bucks consider themselves contenders but won’t sign Westbrook. The Houston Rockets, having lost Fred VanVleet, could really use Westbrook to stay competitive. All teams improve with him.
Westbrook represents a seasoned veteran who has the potential to provide stability and introduce a competitive edge that Milwaukee currently lacks. The departure of Damian Lillard has significantly impacted their backcourt identity.
Rebounding at the guard position will improve the Bucks’ transition game. They have struggled with this since Jrue Holiday left.
Milwaukee should sign Westbrook and quickly establish a lineup that includes him with Kevin Porter Jr., Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Kyle Kuzma, and Bobby Portis. This team would create exciting and entertaining games.
If Westbrook comes off the bench, this could work. He would have more three-point shooters to play with. Cole Anthony might not be healthy, so if he gets injured, there is a chance Westbrook could be signed.
