Klay Thompson’s latest post may signal Mavericks move for Lakers’ speculated signing

It was not long ago that Thompson and Kevin Love were on opposite sides of a heated NBA rivalry, clashing repeatedly during the mid-2010s Finals between the Warriors and Cavaliers.

But in 2025, those battles feel like a distant memory. This offseason, the two got together for a workout session – a tradition that now stretches back two decades, according to a post from Thompson on Instagram.

“Still at it 20 years later is crazy,” he published.

And while they never shared an NBA locker room, the two do have some history as teammates – back in their Little League baseball days.

Initially, it was just another photo of old friends catching up. But given how quickly things can change in the NBA offseason, it is not unreasonable to wonder if there might be more behind it than just nostalgia.

The Lakers could feel the impact if Kevin Love joins Dallas Mavericks

Love’s offseason started with a move from Miami to Utah – a trade that did not sit well with him from the start. Reports soon followed that he was working on a buyout with the Jazz.

The immediate buzz linked him to the Los Angeles Lakers and a reunion with LeBron James. At 37, joining them would be an appealing way to wrap up his career. Still, Dallas Mavericks offer their own appeal. 

The Mavs could use his experience both on and off the court. For younger players like Flagg, having someone of Love’s background around could make a real difference in their development, while also lifting team morale after what was a tough season overall.

If Thompson has indeed helped sway Love towards Dallas over Los Angeles, then there are likely plenty within Laker circles who will not be pleased about it – but let us not forget how Doncic landed himself at Crypto.com Arena without much warning either.
