The New York Knicks ended the 2025 NBA regular season with a 51-31 record, an offensive average of 115.8 points per game led by Jalen Brunson, and a defense that held opponents to roughly 111.7 points per game, earning them the third seed in the Eastern Conference.

Despite a postseason run that featured multiple hard-fought series victories, defeating the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics, and moments of brilliance on both sides of the ball, the franchise ultimately chose to part ways with head coach Tom Thibodeau—an unexpected front office decision especially after the unwavering support of Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart.

Veteran guard Josh Hart, 30, who was selected in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers has steadily built his reputation during his career as a versatile wing across four different teams, ultimately ending up in New York.

He addressed the situation on social media stating, "All y'all talking trash about Thibs lame as (expletive). A different direction was taken but y'all should be appreciative for what he did for the team and organization."

Hart, who averaged 13.6 points, 9.6 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game during the 2025 NBA regular season, underscored his appreciation for Thibodeau’s contributions even as the Knicks now seek a new approach.

During his five seasons with the Knicks, Thibodeau amassed a 226-174 regular season record, reaching the playoffs four times and winning four total playoff series. His 24 postseason wins surpassed the combined total of the previous 13 New York Knick coaches, solidifying his long term impact on the franchise.
