Former Los Angeles Lakers star Shaquille O’Neal reacted to a top 10 player ranking posted on X on Sunday. In the modern league, countless player ranking lists keep most fans debating. The ranking that O’Neal saw was from Bleacher Report, which teased the top 20 players in their top 100 NBA players ever. The four-time champion was surprised to see his teammate, the late Kobe Bryant, outside of the top 10.
The duo of O’Neal and Bryant ruled the league during the early 2000s with the Lakers. They’re the latest team to win three straight championships. The Miami Heat, with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, tried to lead the team to a three-peat. However, they were stopped by the San Antonio Spurs.
Even the Golden State Warriors did their best to try and win the championship three straight times. However, injuries to Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson prevented them in 2019, and they lost to the Toronto Raptors.
Although O’Neal’s breakup with Bryant was unappealing, the two had a high respect for each other. They even reconciled when their careers were over.
When the 15-time All-Star became a member of the media, he would often mention his former teammate highly. That’s why he was very critical of the player ranking by the media outlet.
“Kobe at 11 is criminal,” Shaq said.

The players ahead of Bryant are also some of the best to play in the league. However, his influence across the association is still evident to this day. He led the Los Angeles Lakers to five championships and became an inspiration to current stars like Devin Booker, DeMar DeRozan and Paul George, to name a few.
Only a few NBA stars strike fear when they’re on the court. Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James are just some of the stars who have the intimidation factor when playing.
Jordan revealed that Shaq of the Los Angeles Lakers was someone who intimidated him when he was still active in the league.
“[The last time] That I was intimidated in basketball? When I first saw Shaquille. How big he is. I mean, that was a short intimidation factor, but [laughs] I just couldn’t fathom how big he was,” the six-time champion said in an interview with SLAM Magazine in 2013.
“I mean, I’m intimidated by guys in other fields. Sure, ’cause that’s their profession. And if I’m trying to play their profession, sure, I’ve gotta be intimidated. But in basketball? Uh-uh,” he added.
With the physical attributes that O’Neal had during his time in the NBA, it’s easy to understand why most players were intimidated by the Los Angeles Lakers star.
