JJ Redick has transformed the Los Angeles Lakers since taking over as the team’s head coach.
Prior to JJ Redick’s arrival as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, the team barely had an identity.
However, since Redick has taken control of the franchise, the Lakers have finally turned things around, and this season, they have emerged as one of the best teams in the NBA.
Speaking of Redick’s impact, the Lakers’ head coach currently surpasses even legendary coach Gregg Popovich in one department.
When it comes to legendary NBA head coaches, there are hardly any names that can rival the San Antonio Spurs’ Gregg Popovich.
While coach Pop has now retired, he has left an unforgettable legacy. In fact, coach Popovich has many records to his name.
It includes a phenomenal winning rate of 62.8% for his career spanning nearly three decades. With that said, Redick currently has a winning rate of 63.6% with the Lakers, which is higher than Popovich’s.

The tweet also points out Redick’s 57-4 record when his team has led after three quarters is the best in NBA history.
If Redick can continue dominating at this level and help the Lakers win a couple of NBA Championships, he will certainly be en route to becoming a legendary head coach.
Many will point out that Popovich had 2,263 games under his belt as a head coach, which makes his 62.8% winning percentage a phenomenal feat.
After all, Redick has been a head coach for just 99 games. There’s no doubt that Popovich had unparalleled longevity, but when comparing his first 99 games with Redick, it shows the latter’s talent.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| JJ Redick | 99 | 63 | 36 | .636 |
| Gregg Popovich | 99 | 40 | 59 | .404 |
In his first 99 games as the HC, Popovich had a winning percentage of just 40.4 as compared to Redick’s 63.6.
So far, Redick is off to a much better start than coach Popovich, but can he maintain this for nearly three decades? It’s unlikely.
