Lakers Coaching News Emerges Amid NBA Offseason

The Los Angeles Lakers finished the 2024-25 season with a 50-32 record and a first-round playoff exit, a respectable showing in JJ Redick’s first year as head coach. Redick, who was hired straight out of broadcasting, earned early praise for his communication, attention to detail, and ability to manage veteran players.

His first year showed signs of promise, although the team eventually prematurely exited the playoffs in the first round after losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games. Following the early exit, speculation around the Lakers centered on major offseason changes, both to the roster and possibly some members of the coaching staff.

Redick and the front office are reportedly aligned on long-term planning, and the franchise remains active in trade discussions as it looks to retool around LeBron James and Luka Doncic.

Despite the outside speculation, the Lakers’ coaching staff is not expected to undergo significant changes. According to a report from NBA Insider Anthony Irwin, “sources close to the team” say the staff will “look pretty similar to last season, with a couple of additions here and there, rather than replacements.”

The Lakers are expected to maintain continuity around Redick and his staff heading into his second year.

Los Angeles added experienced voices like Scott Brooks and Nate McMillan last season to support Redick, and both are expected to remain in place. Other key assistants involved in player development and scouting are also likely to continue, with minor additions potentially made to address specific needs such as analytics or defensive coordination.

It appears LA's main target this offseason is landing a reliable center to pair with James and Doncic.
