Lakers facing new roadblock to sign Jonathan Kuminga

Jonathan Kuminga hasn't signed with his new team, but he might already be scaring people away.

The former lottery pick has drawn some interest in free agency, mainly from the Los Angeles Lakers, but it looks like no team is willing to meet his financial demands.

According to Keith Smith of "The NBA Front Office Show," his camp is looking at more than $20 million per year. Otherwise, he only wants to sign a one-year deal.

While that makes sense to a degree, most of his suitors would only be able to get him on a sign-and-trade deal, which would require him to sign a three-year contract instead.

Jonathan Kuminga has clear demands in free agency

“The challenge with Kuminga ... if he’s gonna take less money than what he wants ... then he only wants to do it for a year,” Smith reported. “He doesn’t want to do a three-year deal, and in order to do a sign-and-trade, he would have to have a three-year contract ... That gets him stuck a little bit. He doesn’t want to be on a smaller contract than what he values himself at."

Kuminga wants to bet on himself, but he's only making life much more difficult for any of his suitors.

Also, he didn't do much with his opportunities with the Golden State Warriors, and the Atlanta Hawks weren't that impressed with him after half a season.

Kuminga is a promising player with superstar potential, but he hasn't earned his stripes in the league to make such demands.

The clock is ticking, and he'll have fewer options as free agency goes on.
