Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Bronny James is in his second season with the organization after being selected in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft out of USC. The 21-year-old is still working to establish his role early in his NBA career, splitting time between the Lakers and their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers.

James has appeared in 11 games for the Lakers, including one start, averaging 10.2 minutes per contest. In limited action, he has posted 1.9 points, 0.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.7 steals while shooting 28.6% from the field and 25.0% from beyond the arc.

His production with South Bay has been stronger, suggesting he may eventually carve out a larger role at the NBA level. With the G League squad, James has averaged 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.0 steal, consistently involving teammates and contributing on both ends of the floor.

James missed Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans as he was assigned to the G League squad. The Lakers still won comfortably, earning their seventh straight win.

As James continues to split time, the Lakers officially announced that he would return to the main roster for Monday’s matchup with the Phoenix Suns.

“The Los Angeles Lakers have recalled guard Bronny James Jr. from the South Bay Lakers,” reported Ryan Ward of Lakers Nation.

James continues to carry a unique spotlight as the son of NBA legend LeBron James, yet he has shown determination to carve out his own identity in the league. The balance between expectations and growth has been central to his journey, with the Lakers emphasizing development rather than pressure.

His return against Phoenix represents another opportunity to prove he can contribute in meaningful stretches, even if his role remains limited for now.

The organization has leaned on the G League as a tool to give him consistent minutes and valuable reps, allowing him to refine his game in a competitive setting. While his scoring efficiency is still a work in progress, his playmaking instincts and defensive awareness have already begun to translate at the NBA level.

If James continues to improve, he could earn a steadier rotation role later in the season.
